Outpatient Rotation - MGH

Duration: 3-4 hours per week; PGY III.

Educational Goals: Residents will perform a general diagnostic evaluation (2 hours) every other week, with a child and adolescent faculty supervisor present for the entire time. The resident is responsible for the written clinical evaluation, ordering ancillary tests, and making appropriate referrals. The supervising faculty member is required to review the resident’s evaluation and written report, as well as write a brief summary note in the medical record.

Expectations: General residents and faculty will meet weekly for 2 hours. On weeks following the diagnostic evaluations, they will review the diagnostic write-ups and discuss current child and adolescent and/or adult cases in the resident’s outpatient practice. Longitudinal cases: Residents are expected to conduct the treatment of 1-2 child and adolescent cases, under direction of the faculty member supervising the diagnostic evaluations. It is highly desirable for these cases to come from the diagnostic evaluations performed by the resident.
