McLean: Outpatient Clinic

Schedule

PGY2’s spend one afternoon a week in clinic from 12-6pm.

Supervision

For therapy, 2 hours of individual supervision, 1 hour of primary (shared) supervision. For psychopharmacology, meeting times and frequency are variable.

Scheduling patients

Residents submit a master schedule denoting all the blocks in which patients can be scheduled (e.g. Monday, 11-12 for one hour therapy, 12 - 12:30 for half-hour med checks, etc.) Subsequently patients may be scheduled by the secretaries (855-2525) or the resident (providing the secretaries are informed so the patient can be added to the schedule).

Documentation

Each patient encounter requires the completion of an encounter form, which must be filled out and submitted to the mail room within 24 hours. Each of these, along with problem lists, med lists, and treatment plans, gets put into the patient charts, which are kept in outpatient medical records.

Insurance

The secretaries or chief resident can clarify additional requirements imposed by various insurers.

Tips

· At the start of your clinic day, pull the charts for scheduled patients.
