Round 8-9am

*: in practice, interpretations of this rule vary; if long call is not busy during the day on weekends, she should try to do more than one admission.

Psych DOC responsibilities

1. Pick up walkie-talkie from security at start of shift.

2. Carry the vintage two-way radio and respond to all emergencies, psychiatric and otherwise (medical DOC also responds to codes)

3. Order PRN’s when requested. Generally a copy of the order will be faxed to the call room, whereupon you should sign it.

4. Evaluate patients who may require restraints. Remember that restraint orders expire after 6h; it is often prudent to update restraints between 1 and 3am.

Psych DOC resources

1. MDOC: call with any medical questions about inpatients and possible admits (ensure adequate med clearance for admit).

2. CEC intake: they will help screen admits

3. APS: help your colleagues; use the Partners workstation in the CEC.

4. Backup seniors/moonlighters: don’t worry alone.

5. Cafeteria: free with walkie talkie. No dinner on weekends, get extra.
